Whale Watching

We find it obvious that Australia is the best island to watch whales. Today we woke up early because we had to drive for some hours. We drove to Brisbane and met some amazing people. We had the chance to go on a small boat which could bring us closer to the whales. We were the only tourists on this speetboat, next to the hot captain of course ; - )

After half an hour we were in the middle of the sea and ready to watch some whales. We had to be very quiet which was harder than we thought. After five minutes, we got to see our first whale! The captain told us it was a humpback whale, a rare and very special one!

The whale jumped in the air and turned around. We gazed to the massive animal. Pauline was so excited that she suddenly jumped after the whale, which was not planned at all. Our beautiful captain immediately jumped after her to save her because this whale could have reacted agressive.

After this unplanned adventure, the captain told us that if we kept quite for a little longer, we were going to see a lot more. He said he could forecast it because of the current of the waves. We didn’t believe him at first but kept quite for ten more minutes, at least we could give him a chance to prove his right. And indeed, suddenly four big whales showed up, accompanied by 2 baby whales! This was a very emotional moment. The first whale was fantastic, but this family was INCREDIBLE!

Our captain was also emotional. It was the first time in his career that he saw a family all together. We were very lucky!  It’s been a life-changing day.

That night, we got to bed with the thought of the beautiful whales (and ofcourse we were still thinking about the captain too…)
